Eastern Sierra Fishing Events 2008

The Eastern Sierra,  Mammoth Lakes and Crowley Lake have many fishing contests, derby's and events each season.  You will find a list of many of these events listed below.  

We have video coverage of many of these events posted right here at easternsierrabentrods.com.   Next season our team will be out to  cover each 2008 event in video and photos. 

We welcome your stories about any of these events that you have attended in the past.

Blake Jones Fishing Derby
The next derby will be held on Saturday...March 15, 2008

The Blake Jones Trout Derby is the first fishing event of the season. Every March, the week after the Fred Hall Sports Show in Long Beach this derby takes off. 

The location of the derby is just along the Side of the Owens River, just below the Pleasant Valley Reservoir, six miles north of Bishop. 

Put on by the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, this early season event is a great chance to wet your line and hone your fishing skills!  As a bonus you also have a chance to win some real nice prizes!

Opening Day 2008 BIG FISH contest
at Crowley Lake
 April 25th 2008

The Eastern Sierra Fishing season begins the last Saturday of every April and goes through October 31.  

Opening weekend at Crowley hosts the largest festivities in the Eastern Sierra.  The opening day BIG FISH contest has every angler in competition for cash, prizes and trophy's given by Fred J. Hall and Crowley Lake Fish Camp.

The lake is located 25 miles north of Bishop on Highway 395. It offers some of the most prestigious trout fishing in California.

Sierra Drifters Still Water Classic
 Next event August 2008

August 2007 and it was time for the first Sierra Drifters Still Water Classic.  Crowley Lake Fish Camp and Sierra Drifters Guide Service teamed up to hold the First Annual event.

The First Classic took place in August 2007 and the result was $10,000 to buy fish for Crowley Lake. The 119 tournament registrants overwhelmingly voted on Browns for the lake!

For 2008 the contest will return some time in August.

Double Haul in The Fall
 Next event Summer 2008

Every year Western Outdoor News Sponsors this great fly fishing event at Crowley Lake here in Eastern California. 

Last seasons double haul in the fall was amazing.  200+ Float Tubers out on the water. Over 80% of them were in the north end of Crowley Lake. Our Eastern Sierra Bent Rods.com Team was out to film and judge today.
